2008 Summer Financial Aid

Late Summer applications are no longer available on the web.  If you are trying to apply for summer 2008, you must speak to a financial aid representative in person.

Summer applications will be reviewed once students have registered for summer courses.

Late Summer applications will be reviewed after all on-time applications have been reviewed.  You must pay for your summer tuition by the deadlines stated by the Summer Session Office.

Application Deadline:  April 18, 2008
(Applications received after April 18, 2008 will not be processed.)
Summer financial aid is based upon your remaining eligibility for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Eligibility:
  1. Enrolled in UHM courses only and be a UHM financial aid recipient in the Spring 2008.  Community College courses WILL NOT be funded.
  2. Demonstrate sufficient financial need according to your 2007-2008 academic year FAFSA.

  3. Maintain satisfactory academic progress based on UHM Financial Aid Services academic policies.

  4. You must be enrolled at least half time during the summer (6 credits as an undergraduate student; 4 credits as a graduate student).  You must be enrolled for all credits for aid to be disbursed.  Graduate students enrolled in undergraduate courses MUST provide written approval from your academic advisor.  If you are registering for summer extension courses, please check to see which session these courses fall under in order to ensure your half-time enrollment.

  5. Complete the Summer Application Form and Financial Aid Services MUST receive it no later than April 18, 2008.

Types of Summer Aid Available
  • Federal Pell Grants are available to qualified undergraduate students who have not received a Federal Pell Grant as a full-time student for either the Fall 2007 and/or Spring 2008 semesters.

  • The Federal Family Education Loan Program (Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Stafford, Parent (PLUS) Loan, and Graduate PLUS Loan) is available from lenders for borrowers enrolled at least half time (6 credits for undergraduates/4 credits for graduates).

Eligibility for the Summer term(s) will be determined by subtracting any amount received during the standard academic year (Fall 2007/Spring 2008) from the annual loan limits.

  • Alternative Student Loans are available.  You must complete the Summer 2008 Alternative Loan application and submit it to Financial Aid Services by the deadline.  In addition, you must complete a promissory note directly with your lender.

If you drop below half time enrollment, your financial aid may be cancelled and you will be required to repay all your aid to the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
