Step One: Applying for Financial Aid
The first step to receiving Financial Aid is to apply for it by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A Personal Identification Number PIN is required to sign and complete the application online. If you are a dependent student, at least one of your parents must also apply for a PIN so that they may also electronically sign your FAFSA prior to submitting it.
Applying For a PIN
When applying for a PIN, make sure to provide a valid email address as your PIN will be sent to you via email. You will also receive confirmation once you have completed the PIN process. If you forgot your PIN, you may Request A Duplicate PIN. Your PIN will be sent to you within 72 hours to the email address provided. Should you have any questions, visit PIN Frequently Asked Questions or call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. Once you receive your PIN, you will be able to proceed with your FAFSA application.

Filling Out a FAFSA

The priority deadline for the University of Hawai`i at Manoa is March 1st. Although we advise students to submit their applications by this date, we may continue to accept applications until April 1, 2008 for the Spring 2008
semester, October 31, 2008 for the Fall 2008
semester, and April 1, 2009 for the Spring 2009
semester.
New FAFSAs are available every January 1st.
If this is your first time completing a FAFSA or you have not completed a financial aid application within the last 18 months, select the "Fill out a FAFSA" option. If you had completed a FAFSA for the previous aid year and are a continuing student, select the "Fill out a Renewal FAFSA" option.
If you should have any questions while completing the FAFSA, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center toll-free at 1-800-433-3243, or visit FAFSA on the Web Frequently Asked Questions
When you have submitted your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) via email if you had completed your FAFSA online. Otherwise, a "paper" SAR will be mailed to you by the U.S. Department of Education.
Make sure to read through your SAR! Take note of the comment section as it will indicate any further action you may need to take so that your application will be processed
appropriately.
