Satisfactory Academic Progress
In addition to the general eligibility requirements, you must be making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree or certificate in
order to receive financial assistance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The standards you must adhere to are as follows:

Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or as required by the student’s specific program of study.
The cumulative grade point
average includes all undergraduate courses attempted at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Graduate students must maintain a minimum
cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or as required
by the student's specific program of study.
The cumulative grade point average includes all
graduate-level courses attempted at the University
of Hawaii at Manoa.
Excessive Hours
Undergraduate students must complete their undergraduate degree with less than 186 attempted credit hours. All courses that you register for or transfer to the
University of Hawaii at Manoa are included in the excessive hour calculation.
Deficit Hours
All students must complete at least 75% of all credit hours attempted during the academic year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This percentage
includes all credit hours attempted at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, regardless of whether or not financial aid was received. Grades of W, F, I,
NG and repeated courses are not considered to be adequate grades for completion.
Students who do not meet these minimum standards are not eligible for financial aid. All financial aid offers will be canceled upon non-compliance
of the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
Appeals
You have the right to appeal the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy. However, the submission of an appeal is only a request and does not imply that
a financial aid hold will be removed or that approval of the appeal is forthcoming. The appeal must be submitted to our office in writing and should
demonstrate that unusual circumstances occurred which was beyond your control.
All appeals must include the following information: Student's name, identification number, telephone number and local or mailing address. This letter
must also include the facts or reasons attributing to the student's inability to maintain stated standards. If the student possesses extenuating
circumstances, such as medical reasons or the death of an immediate family member, documentation must accompany the appeal.
(Preferred) A second letter from either a University of Hawaii at Manoa official or other third party to support the student’s case.
Excessive Hour Appeals must include a graduation plan from your Academic Advisor. The Student Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals
Committee will only evaluate appeals that are considered to be complete. A decision will be reached within ten (10) working days, however during
peak periods the process could take up to 4 weeks. The student will be notified by
email of the results.
